THE BLACK FOREST VILLAGE prioritizes sustainability and regionality - which is visible in the existing product portfolio.
Sustainable energy production has a long tradition in the Black Forest. For centuries, water has powered mills, saw works and forges. Chopped wood was the main heating source in every farmhouse and provided power to craft production and glassblowing.
We transferred this tradition in our times.
Since June 2016, we produce in the EnergieWerk our own electricity and heat by using local and renewable energy resources (water, greywater, wood, the sun).
For an independent energy network we combine those traditional energy sources and modern technology (hydro power, wood chip boiler/wood gasifier - CHP unit, photovoltaics, heat exchanger and cooling system).

The EnergieWerk is a pioneering project in Germany.

Our contribution to sustainability:

*reduction of 1150 t of CO2 per year
*employment of intelligent control systems - smart grid to optimize processes and reduce energy requirements
*reduction of foam formation, hygienically unsafe water spray into the air and overheating of local water tanks

Our Criteria

Our Criteria

Fair & Social 🤝

Products with this symbol are traded fairly and/or manufactured under socially acceptable conditions. A living wage for the workers and fair working conditions in the countries of the South are important. Products from social institutions such as workshops for the disabled in Switzerland and Europe or from small manufacturers and craft businesses that are characterized by social commitment also fall under this symbol.

Handmade

Products with this symbol are handmade. These are pieces that took a lot of time and effort to produce and are therefore often only available in small quantities. Many of these products are unique and therefore particularly valuable. Handicraft makes it possible to promote homework and to keep old handicraft traditions alive.

Energy Sufficient 💡

Products with this icon are characterized by their energy-saving properties :
They require - in their production or use - less electricity or less water than conventional products, are possibly solar-powered or generally climate-friendly. Their energy efficiency is high because the ratio of energy use to the desired benefit is optimized.

Recycling ♻️

All products with this icon are directly or indirectly recycled or can be recycled and thus contribute to reducing the mountains of waste.
Direct recycling means that new products are created from waste products. In indirect recycling, the waste products are converted back into their original materials and then reused.

Organic 🌱

For the products that bear this icon, only raw materials from controlled ecological and/or organic cultivation have been used.
This means that no genetically modified organisms were added and, wherever possible, no pesticides or plant protection products were used.

Ecofriendly 🌳

This icon stands for ecological, environmentally friendly products. They are usually made from biological or alternative raw materials, which are significantly more environmentally friendly than conventional materials in terms of extraction and further processing - for example by conserving resources, being CO 2 -neutral or biodegradable.

Made in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Netherlands and Hungary

All products marked country of their origin. The support of regional designers, local small manufacturers and social institutions makes it possible to promote traditions and cultural peculiarities. However, regional production also means short transport routes and thus more climate and environmental protection.
